Introduction
JJL Blasting was contracted by MBH Investments to restore a prominent commercial terrace on Church Street, situated in one of Blackpool’s most heavily foot-trafficked zones near the central bus station and local shopping hub.
Project Overview
Due to the building’s location in a bustling commercial area, the project required a specialist logistical strategy. We conducted the entire restoration during a one-week night-shift schedule to ensure zero disruption to the bus station, neighbouring shops, and the public. We utilised the DOFF method, an English Heritage-recognised low-pressure steam cleaner that reaches temperatures of up to 150°C. This method was essential for removing deep-seated urban grime and biological growth from the stone without the need for harsh chemicals or high-pressure abrasion.
Before/After
The transformation shifts the facade from a weathered, soot-stained commercial block to a vibrant and clean urban landmark. The heavy atmospheric pollution and biological staining common in town centres were completely lifted, leaving the masonry looking revitalised.
