Restoring a Heritage Building

Soda Blasting in Preston

Introduction

Our team was commissioned by the National Trust to carry out specialist soda blasting work on a historic heritage building in Preston. The goal was to carefully remove decades of built-up paint, dirt, and environmental staining from delicate surfaces while preserving the building’s original character. Heritage restoration requires a gentle yet effective cleaning method, and soda blasting is ideal for restoring historic masonry and timber without causing damage.

Project Overview

Over the years, the building’s exterior had accumulated layers of paint, pollution deposits, and weathering that obscured the natural finish. Traditional abrasive methods could have damaged the historic substrate, so soda blasting was chosen as the safest restoration technique. Using specialist equipment and controlled pressure, our technicians carefully removed unwanted coatings while protecting the original materials. Preparation included covering surrounding areas, assessing surface conditions, and performing test sections before full-scale work began. The process revealed the building’s original surfaces, dramatically transforming its appearance while maintaining the historic integrity.
